Best Breakfast

The LBI breakfast scene runs deep, making it no surprise that this was one of the closest and most competitive races in the entire contest.

WinnerLBI Table
LBI Table

Breakfast proved to be one of the most hotly contested categories in the competition, and our second most voted overall. After trailing for much of the voting, LBI Table made a late charge to overtake longtime leader Uncle Will's and secure the top spot. Wally's and Scojo's remained close behind, making this one of the tightest races from start to finish.

Since opening in 2022, LBI Table has quickly established itself as one of the island's most popular breakfast spots. Founded by the original owners of Scojo's, it's no surprise they know what makes a great breakfast. The room is warm and welcoming, the portions are generous, and the menu balances classic favorites with creative twists. Known for standout breakfast bowls, Benedicts, pancakes, and a constantly changing lineup of specials, LBI Table has become a place many visitors and locals make a point to visit each summer.

Best Brunch

With choices ranging from weekend indulgences to everyday favorites, voters ultimately crowned one clear winner above the rest.

WinnerBlue Water Cafe
Blue Water Cafe

Brunch featured one of the deepest fields in the competition, with several restaurants spending time near the top of the leaderboard. In the end, Blue Water Cafe separated itself from the pack early and never gave up the lead, while Black Whale and Jersey Girl battled closely for second place.

Part of the DiPietro family's lineup of island restaurants alongside Stefano's, Blue Water Cafe serves all the brunch staples you'd expect, but it's the coastal-inspired dishes that have helped it stand out. Favorites like the lobster grilled cheese, lobster Cobb salad, and crab nachos put an LBI spin on familiar classics and have become signature menu items in their own right. Pair that with a welcoming, laid-back vibe that feels quintessentially shore, and it's easy to understand why so many readers chose Blue Water as their go-to brunch spot.

Best Family Restaurant

On an island where family is at the center of so much of daily life, there was one restaurant that stood out as the clear favorite for families dining out together.

WinnerWally's
Wally's

Wally's set the pace from the start in the Family-Friendly category, finishing more than 250 votes ahead of the competition. The Chicken or the Egg claimed second place, but this was one of the few categories where the winner was never really in doubt.

Wally's has built its reputation around being a place where everyone can find something they love. The massive menu features everything from family favorites and comfort food classics to specialty dinners and its award-winning chowders. For families navigating food allergies, Wally's also offers the most extensive gluten-free menu on the island. Combine that with some of the friendliest staff you'll find anywhere, and it's easy to see why so many families make Wally's a regular stop.

Best Fine Dining

As laid-back as LBI may be, there's still something special about an excuse to trade flip-flops for real shoes, dress up a little, and enjoy a memorable night out.

WinnerThe Gables
The Gables

The Gables jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, finishing 164 votes ahead of runner-up Black Eyed Susan's.

The Gables has long set the standard for fine dining on LBI. Everything is made in-house under chef Richard Diemer, from the breads to the desserts, and the setting is just as memorable as the food. Whether you're dining inside the elegant Victorian inn or surrounded by the stunning gardens, every detail feels thoughtfully crafted. Exceptional cuisine, impeccable service, and an atmosphere all its own combine to create one of the finest dining experiences not only on LBI, but anywhere along the Jersey Shore.

Best New Restaurant

From first-time operators to seasoned restaurateurs launching new concepts, 2025 was an exceptional year for new restaurants on LBI.

WinnerFlour Child
Flour Child

This was, hands down, the most competitive category in the entire competition. The Tide Table Group's Ellis' Chicken & Crab Cakes held the lead for the first two weeks before Flour Child and Joy & Salt surged past, trading the top spot multiple times down the stretch. When the dust settled, Flour Child emerged victorious by just 15 votes, the closest finish of any category in the contest.

The restaurant burst onto the scene last summer to rave reviews, pairing a fun, memorable brand with a menu that feels perfectly suited for LBI. Owner and longtime pizza shop operator Rob Priskie set out to create the ideal beach pizza, one that travels well and holds up under generous toppings. Using bread flour, the result is a crust that's slightly thicker and softer than a traditional New York slice.

Beyond the pizza, Flour Child has become known for doing the little things right. Favorites like the garlic knots, ribs, and specialty pies have won people over. Just as importantly, the team has embraced the island community from day one. Their friendly, welcoming approach, combined with great food and a fun atmosphere, has quickly made Flour Child one of LBI's most beloved new restaurants.

Best Italian

With longtime LBI favorites Stefano's, Russo's, and Raimondo's on the ballot, along with popular newcomer Azzurri, we had a feeling this would be one of the closest races in the competition, and it didn't disappoint.

WinnerStefano's
Stefano's

With just 41 votes separating Stefano's and Russo's, the race remained tight throughout the voting. Raimondo's stayed in the hunt as well, but in the end, Stefano's was able to claim the top spot.

There's a reason Stefano's is one of the hardest reservations to get on the island. A longtime LBI favorite run by the DiPietro family, it has won a devoted crowd by balancing Italian classics with creative dishes. Chicken Parmigiana and Frutti di Mare sit alongside standouts like Scallop Samantha and Pistachio Salmon, creating a menu that appeals to just about everyone.

Best Seafood

Seafood was a two-man race between the two Tide Table giants.

WinnerBlack Whale
Black Whale

Black Whale and Ship Bottom Shellfish traded blows the whole way, with Black Whale taking it by just 35 votes.

The Black Whale is woven into the Beach Haven routine. It's equal parts seafood restaurant, live music venue, and local gathering spot. From raw bar staples to expertly prepared fish dishes, the focus stays firmly on quality and simplicity done right. Standouts include local oysters, cioppino, tuna egg rolls, and rotating seasonal seafood specials that highlight what's freshest that day.

Best Burger

From old-school burger joints to gourmet creations, the island's burger scene runs deep.

WinnerBurger 25
Burger 25

Best Burger turned out to be our most lopsided category. Burger 25 ran away with it, more than doubling second-place Woody's vote total. While the winner was never really in doubt, Woody's and Holiday Snack Bar battled for second place throughout the voting, with Woody's ultimately pulling away late.

In just over three years, Burger 25 has become one of the island's most popular restaurants. It's consistent, affordable, quick, and always delivers. The menu ranges from classic burgers to creative specialty options, and picking a favorite feels nearly impossible, since it'll likely change by next month. Their Burger of the Month regularly highlights local vendors, and the team has stayed deeply involved in the community. As a bonus, it serves the island year-round, making it a go-to spot for locals, contractors, and tradespeople in the offseason just as much as summer visitors.

Best Pizza

The ever-expanding pizza scene may be LBI's most improved food category over the last decade.

WinnerBay Village Pizza
Bay Village Pizza

Despite acclaimed newer spots like The Boulevard Pizza, Flour Child, and Queen City Crust, along with longtime restaurant favorites like Russo's, Delaware Avenue Oyster House, and Black Eyed Susan's serving up excellent pies, the classic Bay Village Pizza reigned supreme, and in a loud way. It more than doubled second-place Russo's vote total.

Chances are, if you've been to LBI, you've had Bay Village Pizza. Set in the heart of Bay Village, it serves up the kind of pizza that has become synonymous with summers on the island: big, foldable slices with just the right amount of grease and the perfect balance of crispy and chewy. Bay Village keeps it simple, too, with plain, pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom slices instead of a huge specialty lineup. It's the slice HQ of the island, and for generations of visitors and locals alike, the taste of Bay Village Pizza is the taste of LBI summer.

Best Sandwiches

Hoagies, sandwiches, subs, whatever you call them, we can all agree they go hand in hand with summer memories and beach days.

WinnerOkie's
Okie's

Another category with a clear winner, Okie's won by nearly 200 votes over its Surf City counterpart, Lighthouse Deli.

Okie's has been serving the island for more than 40 years. While it's best known as one of LBI's go-to butcher shops, the sandwich counter has become just as much of a destination. They keep it simple: premium cold cuts from Boar's Head, Dietz & Watson, and Thumann's, along with their own store-cooked roast beef and baked turkey breast, layered with fresh-sliced toppings on the perfect seeded roll, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Everything is proportioned just right, with the ideal ratio of meat, cheese, toppings, and bread, never too much of any one thing. It's a formula that has made an Okie's sandwich a summer tradition for generations of island visitors and locals alike.

Best Bagels

This may have been the biggest upset of the entire competition.

WinnerBagels & Beyond
Bagels & Beyond

In a tight three-way finish, beloved Bagel Shack and Bageleddies, both with passionate fans, looked like the favorites, but Bagels & Beyond had other ideas.

With two island locations, one in Surf City and one in Brant Beach, plus multiple off-island spots, Bagels & Beyond has established itself as a force in the LBI bagel scene. Known for its wide variety of freshly baked bagels, generous cream cheese selections, and reliable breakfast sandwiches, it has become a go-to morning stop on LBI. The convenient takeout windows are an added bonus, letting you order and wait outside instead of getting stuck in the inevitable summer morning bagel shop rush.

Best Fish Taco

The dish we almost left out wound up winning the whole thing.

WinnerDock & Claw
Dock & Claw

When we put this contest together, we thought it was a stretch to slot Dock & Claw's crab birria taco into a category dominated by fish tacos. It was simply too good to leave out, though, and we felt it deserved a home in the competition. The voters backed us up, proving it wasn't nearly as much of a stretch as we thought. In hindsight, maybe we should have just called this one Best Seafood Taco.

While La Bamba can still stake its claim as the island's fish taco king, the voters gave the overall nod to Dock & Claw's crab birria taco.

At an establishment that has become a leader in unique, modern coastal eats on LBI, the crab birria taco perfectly captures what makes Dock & Claw so popular. Small corn tortillas are stuffed with crab and Monterey Jack cheese, folded over and crisped, then topped with cilantro and onion. Served with a lime wedge and a rich crab-stock birria broth for dipping, it's a cheesy, crunchy, flavor-packed bite that's as fun to eat as it is delicious.

Best Fun Cocktails

Fun Cocktails turned into a showdown between two of LBI's most entertaining destinations.

WinnerBird & Betty's
Bird & Betty's

This category was a two-horse race between two of the most fun spots on the island, with Bird & Betty's ultimately pulling away from The Shell.

Bird & Betty's has become LBI's go-to destination for fun, live music, and nightlife, but it's far from just a gimmicky shore bar. They put real thought into their cocktail program. From their famous Sunday Orange Crushes made with fresh-squeezed orange juice to creative favorites like the frozen Shipwrecker, Blue Crush, and aptly named This Sh*t Is Bananas, the drinks are every bit as fun as the atmosphere. Pair them with bay views and a sunset, and it's easy to see why Bird & Betty's claimed the title.

Best Craft Cocktails

Fresh citrus, house infusions, and coastal twists define one of the most competitive categories.

WinnerBlack Eyed Susan's
Black-Eyed Susans

This category became a classic North End vs. South End battle. Delaware Avenue Oyster House led for the first two weeks before Black-Eyed Susans made its move down the stretch, ultimately sneaking across the line in a buzzer-beater finish.

At Black-Eyed Susans, the cocktails feel less like a trend and more like part of the experience. It's known for thoughtful combinations, seasonal ingredients, and a menu that evolves throughout the year. You'll find polished classics like Suzy's Margarita, a Smoked Old Fashioned, and a Paper Plane alongside creative offerings that keep things fresh. It's a menu approachable enough for everyone yet inventive enough to stand out, making Black-Eyed Susans a must-visit for the island's cocktail enthusiasts.

Best Atmosphere

Which direction would voters go: the beautiful gardens of The Gables and Station 117, or the waterfront views?

WinnerParker's Garage
Parker's Garage

In the end, the waterfront crowd won out as the two Tide Table titans battled for the top spot throughout. Bird & Betty's held the lead for much of the race, but was ultimately edged out at the buzzer by its dockside neighbor, Parker's Garage.

On an island with surprisingly few true waterfront dining options, Parker's Garage stands out. Set directly on the bay with sweeping views of Parker's Island, it feels uniquely LBI. Between the boats passing by, the open water, and the relaxed coastal atmosphere, it's the kind of place that leaves an impression long after the meal ends.

Crêperie de la Mer & French Cafe

Beach Haven's Crêperie de la Mer and Harvey Cedars' Birdy's Cafe are both beloved, each for its own reasons, and in the end it was the Crêperie that came out on top.

The French-themed Crêperie de la Mer serves delicious crepes, coffee, and pastries in a charming spot. With this being its final year, it feels especially fitting to see it take the title. Owners John and Nadia Albright have created something the island treasures, and we can only hope someone will buy it and keep it going. Either way, make sure to stop in this summer.

Best Coffee

A vastly evolving scene, LBI's coffee landscape keeps growing, with new spots arriving this summer.

WinnerHow You Brewin' (HYB)
How You Brewin'

How You Brewin' didn't just win Best Coffee, it pulled more votes than any other establishment in the entire contest.

Second place came down to a close battle between The Local Market & Kitchen and Guapo's, two local mainstays known for their specialty drinks and steady regulars. But How You Brewin's combination of quality coffee, atmosphere, and quick bites has made it the unofficial HQ of LBI mornings.

Since opening in 2004, How You Brewin' has become part of the daily rhythm of the island. What started as a simple idea, a place built around a quality product and community, has grown into one of LBI's most recognizable spots. From smooth house cold brew to specialty lattes and expertly pulled espresso drinks, the menu keeps people hooked long after vacation ends. On summer mornings, the line often spills out the door, while in the offseason locals stop in to catch up with friends, get some work done, or simply enjoy a slower-paced island morning.

WinnerFerrara's
Ferrara's

A Ship Bottom fixture for more than 50 years, Ferrara's has earned its following on fresh pastries, familiar favorites, and enough smiles from the staff to brighten anyone's morning. The self-proclaimed "world's best" jelly donuts get most of the attention, and honestly, the claim might be justified, but the apple fritters, crumb cake, Boston creams, and elephant ears all make strong cases of their own. Best Ice Cream

WinnerSkipper Dipper
Skipper Dipper

Skipper Dipper is an island icon, open since 1978 and still run by the family that founded it. Its ice cream cone logo is one of the most recognizable sights on LBI, and between that giant cone and the lines that form on summer nights, it's nearly impossible to miss as you head down the Boulevard.

There's a reason generations of families keep coming back. With dozens of flavors, every topping you could want, and a lineup of shakes, sundaes, and other frozen treats, Skipper Dipper has become a summertime ritual for many island visitors. The ice cream is worth the wait, the atmosphere is pure summer, and for many families, a trip to LBI just doesn't feel complete without a stop here.

In Best Market, the top two seeds seemed destined for a showdown from the start.

WinnerPearl Street Market
Pearl Street Market

In a classic mid-island versus south-end battle, Beach Haven's Pearl Street Market emerged victorious over the popular Ship Bottom favorite, The Local. Pearl Street led from start to finish.

A true Beach Haven institution, Pearl Street Market has become a daily stop for locals, second homeowners, and vacationers alike. Open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., it seamlessly covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, and everything in between. The menu is packed with crowd favorites, from homemade salsa and fresh guacamole to standout sandwiches and wraps like the lobster BLT, Cali Wrap, Yellowbird Wrap, and the legendary breakfast wrap known as the Moonrise.

What sets Pearl Street apart is more than just the food. Owner Reed Johnson has cultivated a welcoming vibe that feels uniquely local. Regulars are greeted by name, first-time visitors are treated like longtime customers, and the positive energy behind the counter is impossible to miss. That combination of quality food, consistency, and genuine hospitality has made Pearl Street Market one of the most beloved fixtures in the LBI community.
