The Social Local: What to Do This Week on LBI (June 12 – 19)

June 12 - June 19

This isn’t your usual tourist map. It’s a living, breathing social guide from someone who’s actually out there and loves joyous summer—bicycle bestie Wawa runs, espresso martini ratings, and catching drama in real time. Think of me like your plugged-in bestie who always knows where to be Thursday night through Sunday.

Thursday

June 12th

☀️ Start your weekend early; why not?

  • AMMidday
    – If you’re catching this early, head for the
Outdoor Garden Tour & Art Show
    — 10 AM–4 PM, $40 — tour some gardens, buzz with the bees, shop. It’s a calm, cultivated, and cultural day-’scursion.

Late night – Slide into
Thunder Thursday
at
The Shell
for $1–$3 drinks, DJs, and good chaos from 10 PM–2 AM. They just started selling their VIP card for those planning to go all summer.

Pro Tips:
Get there by 8:30 PM to beat cover. Younger crowd. It’s bumpin’ from 11–1 AM. Bring cash. Tip well. And buy a bartender a hotdog — legend says your summer’s sealed.

Friday

June 13th

🌺 Take it easy this with a chill social Friday between a stacked Thursday & Saturday

  • Happy Hour – Treat yourself to my Happy Hour of the Week: 3-6PM Margs & Margheritas at Bird & Betty’s. Stay a little late to catch live music on the deck, maybe the early nightclub scene with 3am Tokyo’s first set. For more low key after HH head by Bay Village to Ship Bottom Brewery and catch live music with Alex Reck.

Late Night – End with a nightcap at The Woohoo — try their Froconut in a waffle cone. Such a standard order for me.

Saturday

June 14th

🌊 Beach and bounce around Beach Haven.

  • AM– Start with some sunrise yoga on 68th Street beach if you’re feeling virtuous (7 AM daily).
  • Afternoon10th Annual HopSauce Festival is happening: admission is $20 to enter /catch the stacked line up of indie bands and $60 to sample beers.
⏰Pro Tip- You can also catch the vibes and music from outside the fence without the wristband. Last year I got a Bay Village Pizza and watched it from Ship Bottom Brewery with my dog.

Evening Bird’s has music in the club, but I’d rather do a little bar hop on my bicycle after Hop Sauce, maybe get to the Hudson House for a beer and take over the pool table early. Cash only*

Sunday

June 15th

🕊 Soft and brunchy, or recovering with purpose.

  • MorningOC Brunch right over the bridge is my go-to, from 11am-1pm, pick your adventure with either bottomless mimosas, the best bloody mary’s, or a La Colombe cappuccino. I loved it when they had the chicken & waffles on the menu.

Midday – Sundays are meant to be soft, some people are headed back to get ready for the week and others are just getting started. Bird’s has the orange crush bar open 2-8PM upstairs inside.
Evening – Ice cream strolls are key. Try some shave ice on the North end- Pelican Snoballs
South end- Ohana Hau Shave Ice

Monday - Wednesday

June 16-17-18th

🧘‍♀️ My personal fav days of the week- reset, explore, and try something new.
Every week varies like the tides with what’s hot to do, and for what flavor. This week had a heavy summer kick off weekend vibe, and the week days would be more favorable to try something a little more laid back.

A practice of strength, sweat, and stillness, we tried yoga with Angie this week.

HJR01585-Edit-4

She’s speaking articulately in breath and engaging her core through the entire flow. And you didn’t even need to look up from your mat to follow along. That’s Angie.

She leads a donation-based Tuesday morning yoga class that’s as much about strength and mobility as it is about breath and mental stillness. This isn’t some choreographed show of handstands and fancy gear — Angie is the real deal. Articulate, powerful, and wildly grounded. She’s been practicing since the late ’90s and it shows — not just in how fit she is, but in how calmly she teaches. No pressure, no judgment, just: “Find the way.”

The purpose of yoga is to train your mind to be still,” she says. “Movement and breath are just tools.

The class totally kicked my butt in the best way. We all agreed this class is the key to a spiritual and physically fit summer.

Yoga isn’t about how small your waist is or how big your bank account is.

The class is an hour long, open to everyone, and totally accessible — no matter your experience level. I was absolutely dripping sweat but somehow felt gentler leaving than I did arriving. Angie reminds you that you don’t need a lot to stay healthy — just the intention to be kind to yourself, and maybe move a little while you’re at it.

📍Catch her @ Surf City Firehall. She does a double header with 9:30 yoga and 11:00 for chair yoga. Bring your wild mind — she’ll help you quiet it.

When you go out all the time you accidentally overhear some wild tea. I figured I could share something for you weekly to laugh and gasp at.

So last night I casually manifested Wawa. Like, I literally said out loud as I arrived on my bike, “I wish someone would buy me Wawa.” Cue: the universe (or maybe just “some guy”)

Someone did in fact buy me Wawa as I was pulling out singles at the register. Silently. Anonymously. Like some deli-line Shoobie Romeo, a swift credit card tap to the terminal.
I exchanged my thank yous and good-karma chat and- cue the chaos! Word on the parking lot was that our mystery benefactor had already told another girl earlier at the bar that he was going to buy her Wawa. Bold strategy, ya know- buying me Wawa when he had been chatting up a cutie before shooting this shot with me. Except… he didn’t buy the girl anything. She ended up swiping her own card for her snacks while I floated out the door with a free quesadilla.

When questioned by his associates and the girl gang (oh yes, there was questioning), his “defense” was:
“I didn’t buy two girls Wawa tonight!!  She paid for her Blue Gatorade and her sandwich—by herself.” An eye roll defense if you ask me.

The receipts don’t lie, but the streets are talking.

And me? I just casually manifested Wawa like it was nothing. That goes to show that you can manifest anything on LBI to some extent, but they forgot my sour cream.

About Me

IMG_1774

Hey, I’m LG—a year-round Ship Bottom local, motorcycle riding, dog walking, friendly neighborhood fun specialist. You’ll usually spot me cruising the island with my pup Sylvie or chatting with someone about where to catch live music, the best beach for a sunset, or which local spot has the freshest tacos this week. I have watched the LBI evolution to predict the trends like a tide.  You might even see me out there enjoying this beautiful and precious gem that is LBI.

To me, everyone who lands on LBI is just another kid at summer camp—and I’m here to be your counselor. This is The Social Local, and I’m sharing the magic one guide at a time! Peace and love, see you there!
